Horse Show, Plant Sales, Rodolico Announces

Hearings on Aljen Heights Water Project, Locals React to Osama Bin Laden, UConn Commencement

And to think just a week ago the royal wedding was the big news. 

Not even the tornadoes down South, or John Rodolico's announcement that he will seek the Republican nomination for Mayor could compete with news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed by a team of Navy SEALs. 

But, lest we forget, Little League opened its season last weekend, and there was a very nice horse show, organized by the LHS Agri-Science Department and Future Farmers of America, at the Fairgrounds.

Cows and Cones also opened last weekend, and Ledyard Middle Schooler Sarah Stryker was our Whiz Kid of the Week. 

On the state level, the House of Representatives approved a $40.1 billion budget, which was promptly signed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. Closer to home there were two public hearings on the Aljen Heights water project, both poorly attended. A Town Meeting on the project will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at the Town Hall Annex.

We paid tribute to our mothers at this week's Moms Chat, and columnist Michelle Tracy described the depths of her un-coolness.

Wednesday was a big day for horticulture students in the Agri-Science program at LHS. And we published the LHS Honor Roll for the third quarter.

In other school news, the Board of Education, as it prepares to fill three vacancies, will solicit comment from parents on what makes a good school principal. 

It was a great year for UConn sports fans. And speaking of our State U., Avery Point celebrated its graduates Friday, and there will be a whole bunch more receiving degrees today in Storrs, including Tom Thorndike. (Way to go, Kiddo!)
