Ledyard Elects Mitt Romney For Republican Presidential Candidate

Voter turnout was more than 16 percent.

 

Ledyard voters overwhelmingly elected Mitt Romney as the Republican presidential candidate Tuesday.

The combined voter turnout for the three voting districts was 16.6 percent of the 2,426 registered Republicans. Voters cast 250 ballots, or 62 percent, for Mitt Romney. Ron Paul received the second most votes with 56 total votes.

In district one, 211 ballots were cast, which is 16.7 percent of registered Republicans in that district. More than half, or 129 votes, were cast for Romney. Ron Paul was a very distant second with 29 votes, Newt Gingrich captured 19 votes, Rick Santorum captured 18 votes, even though he’s no longer running, and nine uncommitted voters turned out to cast a ballot.

Poll workers described the day as “slow and steady” in the afternoon. Registrar of Republican voters Nancy Lozier was impressed that more than 200 voters in district one turned out to vote.

The voting results for districts two and three were combined, and 190 ballots, or nearly 16.5 percent, of registered Republicans in those districts voted today. More than half of voters elected Mitt Romney, who captured 109 votes. Ron Paul received 27 votes, Rick Santorum received 22 votes, New Gingrich received 21 votes and five uncommitted voters turned out to cast a ballot.
