Ledyard Patch Is 1-Year-Old Today!

Another Modified Daily Five in Honor of Our Anniversary

  1. Showers in the morning today with isolated thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon. High near 70F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain is 60 percent. Tonight showers and a few thundershowers. Low 63F.
  2. Ledyard Patch is 1-year-old today. The site launched on Oct. 13, 2010. It was the first Patch in eastern Connecticut. We had planned to launch on Oct. 14, but only because we were being superstitious. Our Editorial Director, Anthony Duignan-Cabrera, inspected the site, judged us ready for prime time and switched us on. Just like that.
  3. Since then we have published 2,545 articles, almost all of them about Ledyard and Gales Ferry. We have published almost twice as many photos, not including the ones readers have posted on the site.
  4. During the past year we have watched our readership grow steadily. We also have watched the site become more interactive. As more readers become involved in posting announcements, events, photos, blogs and comments, my job continues to get easier.
  5. We really appreciate all the nice things readers have said about us, especially during budget time, when we turned out to be a pretty good source for how your tax dollars are being spent. And during Irene, when it was sometimes hard to get information anywhere else.

So thanks for reading Patch. This has been a lot of fun, and we hope you'll stick around because we're just getting started.

The Patch has become part of my morning routine and I've recommended it to many people. I always look forward to reading the Five Things to Know and treasure receiving information specific to our community.

Patch fills the void that the local print newspapers created by not covering Ledyard news. You and the line of people at Dunkin Donuts were my source of info during the power outage following Irene. Keep it up!

Happy birthday Bill and Ledyard Patch! I marvel at your coverage, and think you provide an awesome service. Bill, I have seen you at so many events; you are so dedicated to our community. How about a picture of you and the team for a well deserved bow? Have a great day and thanks for the year round gift you give us! Dan Weaver and Lee Moore

Hi Dan: Thanks for the kind words, and especially for recognizing "the team." There are so many who have helped to produce the Patch we have come to know and appreciate. Tom Fagin, Val Doughty and Stan DeCoster come immediately to mind. And Larry Kelley, Mike Costanza, Elissa Bass, Jessie King, Carrie and Peter Jacobson. And all the folks, like you and so many others, who write to us and post their photos. On to Year Two!

Happy belated Birthday to Patch & Staff. I look forward every day to see what's happening. Being able to voice an opinion immediately is certainly an added feature. Keep up the good work.
