Montville Master's Road Race Is Set for Sunday

There is still time to get into the race

If you're over 40, take heart. The Montville Master's Race, a 6.2 mile running competition for people 40 and older, is set for Sunday, at 9 a.m., starting at Camp Oakdale on Oxoboxo Road.

And if you just turned 40, take advantage of your youth.

According to Rob at justgorun.org, "The course is challenging, but that is what makes it fun.  If it was easy, I wouldn’t want to do it."

The 10K starts at Camp Oakdale, and is apparently a pretty challenging race, with a flat section in the beginning, followed by rolling hills and a downhill section at the end.

Preregistration is $13; registration on race day is $15; you can register as early as 7:30. Preregistration entitles you to food and beverages at the Montville Polish Club after the race; the first 40 registrants will receive a free T-shirt, as well.

From scores shown on the Internet, it seems that race participation has dropped off slightly over the years, from a high of nearly 80 to a steady registration of roughly 50 runners.

There are prizes for men and women in three age categories: masters, which is 40-49; grand masters, 50-59; and seniors, 60 and older.

As one race report said, the competition is good, and there are none of "those pesky kids" running.

The race is sponsored by Montville Parks & Rec and the Montville Rotary Club. For information, contact the Parks & Rec Department at 860-848-3030, ext. 321, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or tonight and Saturday, Ron Dombrowski at 860-367-9259.
