Propane Leak On Avery Hill Road Prompts Cautious Reminder For Homeowners

Fire department recommends a call to your gas service provider for re-fills and gas line alterations.

Ledyard Fire Department responded to a report of a propane leak on Avery Hill Road Tuesday evening. Deputy Chief John Doucette said the homeowner called the fire department after trying to add more propane to an existing tank of propane, which created a leak.

Upon arrival, Doucette realized "there was a sizable leak and potential for it to go bad," so he called tankers from Gales Ferry and the Poquetanuck Fire Department in Preston to help flood the leak and push the propane away from the house. Mashantucket Hazmat team and Ledyard Ambulance also responded.

The incident was totally resolved within one hour and Ledyard Fire Department Chief Steve Daggett reminds people to call your gas or oil provider for re-fills and modifications.
