Week In Review: Cows And Cones For Sale, Political Groups Banned From Farm Market

. The spot has been a popular community gathering place (and only ice cream store in Ledyard) for a few years now. It has been a host to community events and fundraisers as well as pleasant pastimes like hay rides, plant sales, petting farm animals and of course, eating ice cream.

The Bulletin reported that the Farmers’ Market, which takes place on town-owned property, banned all political groups from taking part and having a booth at the market after the SECT Tea Party Patriots hosted a booth this week. Market Master Bob Burns said the group did not represent themselves as the Tea Party but rather a group disseminating information for voters; also the group did not have an insurance policy, which is required by all participants of the market. Tea Party organizers said they had accurately represented themselves on their application and were not told about the insurance requirement.

A . The victim is in serious but stable condition and the accused was taken into custody. Stay tuned for updates on this story.

The Town Center Committee submitted an application for state funds to give the town center a little facelift. . There will also be lots of trees, more grass and sidewalks and crosswalks that will unify parts of town and make it more “pedestrian friendly.”

Patch blogger Aaron Turner filled us in on the Perseid meteor showers we might have a chance of seeing tonight, which is the best night to see it anyway. Turner said the shower will last through August 22 but this weekend was the best time to see it and that viewers may see up to a dozen “shooting stars”.
