Week in Review: Ledyard Grad on Weather Channel’s Coast Guard Florida, Officer of the Year and Elderly Housing Development in the Works

will appear in the new Weather Channel reality series, which features men and women in the Coast Guard who are stationed in Florida.

“Coast Guard Florida” will broadcast on the Weather Channel on Wednesdays, (began Oct 10) and the show features Ledyard alumnus Chelsea (Smith) Kalil, who is a lieutenant at Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater.

The Weather Channel’s film crew showed up in March, she said, just in time to film her aircraft commander test.

"They just said, 'No pressure, but this is all being filmed and it'll probably be on television,'” she said of the extra passengers on her test flights. “It always makes it a little nerve-wracking.”

Patch posted a photo gallery from the boys and girls cross-country meet Wednesday. Stonington and Fitch high school cross country teams met at Ledyard for one last meet before the ECC championships next week and the state meet that follows.

The Town Council approved an ordinance Wednesday that allows a tax abatement for property designated for elderly of low or moderate-income persons or families, or disabled persons of low or moderate income.

The abatement comes at the request of the , said to David Holdridge who is the president of the society.

“Many of the members of our congregation are looking for senior housing and don't want to have to move out of town,” he said of the proposal.
