Week In Review: Town Budget, Taxes Set And Teacher Grants Awarded

The Town Council finished off the obligatory budget meetings; the budget was approved by voters and the tax rate was set this week.

The town approved a zero-increase budget in the so the council didn’t have too, too much to consider. In the process of adopting a new mail-in location for taxes, Mayor John Rodolico said the tax collector’s office is short staffed and taxpayers should pay using any of the recommended services that does not include dropping in on the tax collector.

And, it looks like November’s election will be interesting. . He may be running against Fran Lowell, a Republican from Gales Ferry, for Tom Reynolds’ seat in the House of Representatives. Reynolds has announced he’s running for State Senator Edith Prague’s seat upon her retirement and

The Ledyard Education Advancement Foundation for each of the Ledyard schools. The organization also awarded several mini-grants to teachers who have big plans for all the new technology available.

The Ledyard Police announced they are having another . They are accepting donations for the Ledyard Food Pantry, which didn’t get much from the recent “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. The police union has promised to give out free ice cream cones to kids (who are also allowed to sit in cruisers and turn on lights, btw), the ACO will bring adoptable kittens and K9 officers Ringo and Lambeau will show off all their tricks for the crowd.

The Ledyard senior prom was Saturday and the . The extra patrols were paid for by a grant given to the Ledge Light Health District and is just one of their new initiatives against under age drinking.

Harvard beat Yale in the 147th boat race yesterday. The Harvard-Yale Regatta is the longest running collegiate competition and it either begins or ends in Gales Ferry each year. The renowned tradition incorporates long-time Gales Ferry families, houses and property and hopefully soon, the newly renovated Gales Ferry Community Center.
