Boys Cross Country at LHS.

The Ledyard Boys Cross Country team traveled to Haley Farm in Groton to meet the Fitch Falcons and New London Whalers on wooded and grassy trails and paths to see which team would run fastest Tuesday.  The Ledyard Boys outran both the Falcons ( 19 - 36 ) and the Whalers ( 17 - 46 ) on a cool, crisp day for running.
Max Armstrong, senior captain,  took the lead over the last 300 meters and finished first in the meet and for the improving Colonels for Ledyard. Bryce Hedman, 2nd in the meet and for Ledyard and Aaron Norcia in third for LHS and the race followed closely with excellent times. Junior Zach Jones, displaying his increasing fitness and patient strategy,  cruised in to solidify 4th for the Colonel’s team and 7th in the race with his best performance of the young season at the 5k distance. Senior Parker Cronin returned to form and supported his team with his best race of the year to get 5th for the team and 8th in the race.
Sophomore Christian Fogg showed a lot of improvement with an important 6th for the team and senior Al Miller ran his best 5k race of the season to gather in 7th place for the team and help secure the victories. 6th and 7th are so important as they displace runners form other teams and help increase the score of the top five runners in cross country competition.
Freshman newcomer Geralson Withrow, with his best 5k of the year and sophomore Alex Barina, who ran a first race of 2013 in his best time to date were impressive. Freshman Houstin Hightower, showing some of his potential, flew over the course to register his best time of the year also.
Congratulations to the team for running their record up to 4 victories versus 1 defeat for the 2013 season.
