Tour & Book Discussion with Historian Allegra di Bonaventura

You've read the book, now ask your questions!

Tour the Joshua Hempsted House with historian Allegra di Bonaventura and then enjoy a book talk and tea with her at the Custom House Maritime Museum on Sunday, April 6. The tour is at 1; talk at 2.

di Bonaventura's "For Adam's Sake" is one of the most significant books ever published about life in colonial New London. She traces the intertwining stories of several local families, including the Hempsteds and Jacksons.

Many of the events she describes took place at the Hempsted house, built in 1678, where Adam Jackson lived as a slave for 30 years.


Admission to both the tour and talk is $10 for NL Maritime Society or CT Landmarks members; $15 for others.

Admission to the Hempsted House only is $5 for CTL and NLMS members; $7.50 for others.
 
Admission to the talk and tea only is $8 for CTL and NLMS members; $12 for all others.

The event is sponsored by CT Landmarks, the New London Maritime Society and the Stonington Book Club. Copies of “For Adam’s Sake will be available for purchase at the talk.

The Joshua Hempsted House is at 11 Hempstead St. in New London; the Custom House is at 150 Bank St., also in New London.
