Ledyard's Student Ambassador Fundraiser

Kevin McDonald is a 17 year old young man who will be embarking on a journey July 4 as Ledyard’s Student Ambassador. He will be traveling to England, France, Normandy, Wales and Ireland. While in these countries he will be learning about the different countries, visiting Parliament in England, and doing community service projects in different villages. He will be staying with a host family or two while visiting. Kevin began the journey as a Student Ambassador last fall when he attended his first meeting and decided he wanted to participate. The journey for Kevin, and other Student Ambassadors, begins with paying for the trip- through fundraising and other service projects.

Kevin has held pasta dinners, sold cupcakes, and has done odd jobs to earn the money to pay for the trip. His final fundraiser is this Sunday, June 23, at the Gales Ferry Fire House. It will be a yard sale with donations provided from people throughout Southeastern Connecticut. The fundraiser will be held from 8am to 2pm and there will also be vendor tables.  If you haven’t met Kevin yet (and even if you already have) please come, meet Kevin and support him in his endeavor to raise money for his trip.

Many people already know Kevin in the Gales Ferry/Ledyard area. Kevin is on his way to his senior year at Ledyard High, a volunteer cadet captain with the Ledyard Fire Department, plays varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse and assists with the youth leagues. Kevin always has a smile and a kind word for everyone!

Kevin is looking forward to this trip as a whole, and has two areas he is especially looking forward to. The first is paying his respects to the men who gave their lives on the beaches of Normandy, and the second is learning his heritage in Ireland.
