Patch's Poll: If Apple Made a Smaller, Cheaper iPad, Would You Buy It?

Rumors sprung up this week that Apple is working on a more affordable version of its iPad tablet.

Multiple news agencies are reporting this week that tech giant Apple may be working on a smaller version of it’s popular iPad tablet computer.

Bloomberg News reported this week that it had spoken to “two people with knowledge of the plan” to create a 7-inch iPad that would compete with tablets like the Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus tablets.

This supposed smaller iPad wouldn’t have the high definition screen of Apple’s latest model, however it would likely be a much cheaper device aimed at a more affordable market, the news site reported.

The current 10-inch iPad retails for around $499.

Of course, as CNN notes, rampant speculation doesn’t always mean truth when it comes to Apple, as many online rumors about the company’s products have fizzled in the past.

If Apple produced a smaller iPad, would you give in and buy one? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

Ummm…you left out an option for people who already own one. In other words, would you move from the larger iPad you have now to one that is more like a perfect size for your hand? As it is, I won't vote on this poll because none of the answers apply. :)

Or would you buy one of the competing brands?
Google's Nexus 7 is not shipping until mid July. At $199.(8GB) and $249.(16GB) its 1/2 the price of the $500. iPad you mention. Personally, I'm waiting for real world user reviews but thinking that might be my next gadget buy.

Another good point. Pogue looked at the Nexus pretty favorably this past week.

(Two mis-uses of "it's" and "its" - the first means "it is" and the second is possessive - if you read the sentences using the usage as is, they don't make sense. Sorry, obsessive/compulsive syndrome popping in...) -- I might consider a smaller iPad, depending on the price and if it will have WiFi/3G or 4G - my daughter has the original one and really likes it, but it doesn't have 3G, so she doesn't carry it out of the house.

Also no option for "No, because Apple is a terrible company."

WiFi is so very readily available in many many places that I don't hesitate to take my Kindle Fire out of the house and do so on every trip and even when my husband was undergoing physical therapy. The wait there got long and it was nice to read/send mail and read USA today news at my leisure. I've read good reviews on the Nexus. I think they have a winner.
