Patch's Poll: Should Insurance Companies Cover Birth Control?

The contentious part of the Affordable Care Act went into effect this week.

A portion of the federal healthcare law mandating that employee sponsored health coverage include birth control went into effect on Wednesday.

The Health and Human Services mandate, which is part of the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare,” requires that private insurers must include contraceptive coverage in their plans without charging a co-pay, the Huffington Post reported.

The mandate has been one of the most contentious parts of Obamacare because it draws into question whether it violates religious freedoms, forcing institutions like the Roman Catholic Church to go against its conscience and provide coverage for something it doesn't believe in.

The Church has been in stark opposition to the HHS mandate, and many Republicans have argued the same, the Huffington Post reported.

Meanwhile, Democrats and women’s rights groups have said it’s an advancement in women’s reproductive rights.

Do you agree with the birth control coverage mandate? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
