Alleged Crystal Mall Peeping Tom Kills Himself

The Day reports that a man who was arrested in October for allegedly spying on people in the changing rooms of the Crystal Mall has killed himself.

In October, Waterford Police charged Christopher Gribble, 40, of Bradford, RI, with two counts of voyeurism, two counts of disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a child after he was allegedly spying on people at the Crystal Mall. Gribble, who was out on bond, was set to appear in court today, but prosecutor Michael Kennedy announced that he killed himself last month and his case will be nolled, according to The Day.

According to police, Gribble attached a small camera to his shoe and put it under the door of changing rooms within the Crystal Mall on two occasions in September. In an interview with police, Gribble told them he becomes sexually aroused from looking at photos he shot covertly, according to court records.

Gribble told police he stopped taking voyeuristic photos after he was convicted of voyeurism in 2006, but began again in June of 2011, according to court records. After that, he told police he would take voyeuristic photos of people – both men and women – approximately three times a month, according to court records.

Gribble was facing three felony charges – both voyeur charges, which are both Class D felonies, and risk of injury to a child, a Class C felony – and two misdemeanors – both disorderly conduct charges, which are both Class C misdemeanors. He had put in an original plea of not guilty.
