Memorial Day weekend is typically a high travel weekend and CT State Police want to see everyone driving safely.

Police first issued the obvious reminder — don’t drink and drive — and then introduced their involvement in the National C.A.R.E. program over the Memorial Day Weekend. C.A.R.E. stands for Combined Accident Reduction Effort.

The Operation C.A.R.E. holiday weekend will begin on Friday, May 23, and will continue until midnight Monday, May 26.

Connecticut State Troopers are joining all New England State Police Departments concentrating on enforcement of DUI and safety belt laws during the entire holiday weekend.

“Remember, obey all traffic laws and pay attention to your speed,” Lt. J. Paul Vance said. “Don’t drink and drive.  If you see a suspected drunk driver, report it immediately by calling 911. The click word for all motorists and their passengers for the weekend should be, ‘Buckle up and stay off the cell phone. It’s the law’.”

Its all revenue generation for the state. Maybe when you get busted smoking a joint you'll have a marijuana detector in your house. Getting people into the system and keeping them there is a huge business. Jail, parole, probation. Its a self feeding process for the DOC. It justifies their budgets and their jobs. Please dont get me wrong. Drunk driving is awful. There is no excuse for it in Fairfield or anywhere. You can take a cab in this town from one end of town to the other for $10, or less for sure, which isnt much more than a cost of a drink, or even less than the cost of a drink in the some fancy places in this town. Unfortunately, even when people have died as a result, you cant take away the rights our constitution and subsequent laws afford us

How were his civil rights violated. You lost me.

Some noise above about the civil rights abuses that are perpetrated by DUI checkpoints, associated unconstitutionality etc. All I know is that a truly dangerous person with the potential to kill and maim was taken off the street, thanks to the checkpoint.
