UPDATED: Country Club Drive Fire Displaces Family

One Ledyard family member and one firefighter were injured, family pets perished.

 

UPDATED 9:44 a.m.

Firefighters responded to a basement fire at 15 Country Club Drive early Thursday morning. The house was occupied by three family members who had evacuated safely although no quite unscathed.

Ledyard Ambulance and L+M Paramedic were dispatched to the scene for smoke inhalation and according to the Ledyard Fire Company #1 Facebook page, "One occupant was transported to L&M Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The other two family members were not injured."

A dog and cat perished in the fire.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes although one firefighter was transported to L+M Hospital for a minor injury.

The Ledyard Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating this fire.

Ledyard Fire Company #1, Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company, Ledyard Ambulance, L&M Hospital Paramedic, Submarine Base Fire Department FAST team, Old Mystic Fire Department, Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department, Salvation Army Canteen, American Ambulance Rehab Unit responded to the incident. Laurel Hill Fire Company covered the fire station while Ledyard Fire Company #1 was on scene.

The Norwich Bulletin today is reporting that house fire on Country Club Road displaced a family of three last night.

Ledyard dispatch is reporting that one person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

This morning, the Ledyard Fire Company #1 posted to their Facebook page, “Ledyard units are still on scene of working structure fire that came in at about 0230 this morning, the fire is out and the call is under control.”

And, Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company, who also responded to the fire, posted on their Facebook page, that ” The fire caused extensive damage to the house and is currently under investigation. There was one minor firefighter injury, details will be posted as they become available.”
