Ossining firefighters have knocked down an attic fire on Maurice Avenue.
Ossining Fire Chief Jason Lorenz said one firefighter was injured in the firefighting effort, which was made difficult by today's severe cold and icy conditions.
The identity and extent of injuries to the firefighter were not yet available.
The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. Lorenz said the blaze took place inside a turret on the roof line of the Victorian-style home.
Firefighters climbed to sections of the roof on either side of the turret to knock out the fire. Lorenz said the firefighting effort took about 45 minutes.
Firefighters from neighboring communities of Sleepy Hollow and Croton assisted Ossining firefighters, with firefighters in Millwood, Briarcliff and Tarrytown on standby in case of other emergencies.
During the firefighting effort, Croton firefighters were released from their duties in Ossining to investigate a fire call in Croton that turned out to be smoke from a wood burning stove.
