Head-On Crash in Gales Ferry Sends Three to Hospital

Ledyard Police are still investigating the cause of a head-on collision on Route 12 near Anderson Drive around 3:30 Friday morning.

Three people were sent to the hospital after one vehicle crossed the middle lane and crashed into another on Route 12 early Friday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m., Alexandria Springer, 26, of Concord Court in Groton was driving her 1991 Acura south on Route 12 with passenger, Olga Revis, 21, of 48 Kings Highway in Gales Ferry when they were hit by a 2003 Jeep Wrangler driven by Nathaniel Rosseel, 24, Submarine Base in Groton.

Due to the heavy damage to the Acura, Springer had to be extricated from her vehicle prior to being transported to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich with multiple injuries. Rosseel was also transported to Backus Hospital; Revis was transported to L+M Hospital in New London.

Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, Submarine Base Fire Department Ambulance, American Ambulance, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Paramedic, and Ledyard Police Department responded.

The Ledyard Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the cause of this accident. Anyone who may have witnessed, or has information related to the accident, is asked to contact Officer Eric Bushor at 860-464-6400. An anonymous tip can be left at the same number.

The driver of the Acura is my daughter's mother! She is in critical condition. She is in our prayers! The person that hit her head on, I am not sure if he was drunk or what but people really need to be more careful. Because of someone's stupidity my daughter could possibly be without her mother! Alex you are in mine and Melissa's prayers! We love you dearly and don't worry me and Melissa will be taking great care of our daughter, Alyssa.

It will more than likely turn out to be that the man at fault was driving distracted whether by booze or texting or talking on the phone. I regularly have to swerve out of the way of people crossing the line on rt 12 in Gales Ferry. Just horrible that others must pay a price for the selfish irresponsible behaviour of others. Hope all recover fully.

No it is a fact that the driver of the Jeep, Nathaniel Rosseel was very intoxicated and should of not been driving anywhere. I hope that they put him in jail for a long time and I hope that he gets kicked out of the Navy. He was very drunk!!!

My prayers r with u all in this time of dispare. This is truely a tragic moment for all. Nobody should be driving a vehicle under the influece of alchohol. The pain and suffering alyssa is going thru is more than i could even imagine. Along with the rest of the family. I hope the driver gets what he deserves in his day at court. And has alot of time to think about his decision to drive impaired that night in jail. God Bless u all.
