Updated: Arrests Made in Home Invasion

Three Men Entered Occupied House in Barrett Park Through an Unlocked Basement Door.

State Police this afternoon confirmed that arrests have been made following a home invasion that took place at around 9 a.m. today at 13 Marla Ave. in the Barrett Park neighborhood of Ledyard.

Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein said suspects were taken into custody this afternoon but have not been charged as police continue to sort through evidence to determine possible involvement in other crimes in the region.

The Bulletin reported that the men were taken into custody this afternoon outside an apartment building on Bath Street in Norwich.  Connecticut State Police have yet to release additional information.

According to an unconfirmed report, the three men entered the gray ranch-style residence in Barrett Park through an unlocked basement door. A neighbor who asked not to be identified said three members of the family were home at the time.

NBC Connecticut said family members inside the house, which is listed as the home of David Doucette, were terrorized by the assailants, but were not injured.

Finkelstein said it did not appear that the men stole anything from the home. They were reported to have fled toward Norwich in a gray Pontiac – information that may have helped police locate the suspects.

The neighbor said the assailants appeared to be after drugs or money. "They went to the wrong house," the neighbor said, adding that the ordeal was traumatic for the family. “It’s going to take some time for them to heal.”

"Obviously we take very seriously any threats of violence," Finkelstein said, adding that Ledyard Police committed all of its resources to capturing the men.

Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that police confirmed three men were taken into custody. The confirmation was only that suspects had been apprehended. A third suspect is still at large and is being sought by police.
