Ledyard Woman, New London Man Injured in Early Morning Head-On Crash

The collision happened on Route 117 just south of Lorenz Parkway at 2:43 a.m.

A Ledyard woman and a New London man were transported to area hospitals early Sunday morning after a head-on collision on Route 117 near Lorenz Parkway.

According to a release by Ledyard Police, a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Jen Macomber, 32, of Colonel Ledyard Highway in Ledyard, collided with a 1998 Plymouth Voyager operated by Ivantilton Pires de Mirana, 36, of New London at about 2:43 a.m.

Both operators were trapped in their vehicles and were extricated by firefighters from the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Center Groton Fire Department and Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department. Macomber was transported via Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad to Backus Hospital in Norwich, while De Miranda was transported by Groton Ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London and then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The accident is under investigation by Ledyard police. Anyone with any information about the accident should contact officer Eric Bushor at 860-464-6400.
