Norwich Man Shot and Killed by Police After Allegedly Brandishing a Gun

Michael Dugas, 52, was killed after he allegedly pointed a gun at police in Norwich.

One Norwich man was killed after he alledgedly refused to follow commands given by Norwich police and brandished a firearm last night.

Just after 7 p.m., Norwich Police responded to the vicinity of 172 Laurel Hill Ave. for a "despondent male," and upon arrival, were confronted by the man, later identified as Michael Dugas, 52, of the same address, according to the statement issued by Lt. J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police.

Dugas failed to respond to Norwich officers and then drew a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at the officers, Vance said, at which time the officers were "forced to discharge" their firearms at the subject striking him.

"The suspect, Dugas, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased," said the release.

This remains an active investigation being conducted by the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Unit.

Last month, a Norwich police officer was shot multiple times by a suspect who later shot himself after an hours-long stand off with police; the officer was treated for gunshot wounds and a few days later, released from the hospital.
