UPDATED: Route 12 Is Open But Traffic Light Still Being Fixed

The part between Long Cove Road and Inchcliffe Drive has been closed for most of the day.

Police have re-opened the portion of Route 12 between Long Cove Road and Inchcliffe Drive that has been closed all day but the traffic light at the intersection of Long Cove Road and Route 12 has not been repaired yet.

Police will remain at the intersection directing traffic but the road is passable.

Paul Lunt, 88, of Norwich was driving a 2000 Nissan on Route 12 and “left the travel portion of the road striking the pole.” Lunt was transported to the William W. Backus hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein.

The utility pole however, was snapped near the base and needed to be replaced. Wires needed to be either re-strung or replaced and the road was closed for most of the day and people were detoured around the construction site.

The Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Paramedic responded to the call, which was received by the Ledyard dispatch center at 3:32 a.m.
