Federal Buildings Should Wave U.S.-Made American Flags

Several U.S. lawmakers are backing a bill, filed on the eve of July 4 in the U.S. House of Representatives, that would require it.

Some federal lawmakers are pushing for a new law that would require all American flags flown on federal buildings be American-made.

The move came this week, on the eve of July 4, and one of its sponsors is Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat. Ohio is home to several makers of U.S. flags.

Currently, the U.S. spends $3.6 million importing many American flags from China.

A similar bill was approved by the U.S. House in 2010 but died before it reached the Senate.

The federal measure mirrors a debate currently under way in other states across the country. Minnesota recently passed a law requiring all flags sold in stores in that state to be made in the U.S.

Arizona also requires public schools, from junior high school and up, to fly only U.S.-made flags.

This shouldn't have to be a law, it should be common sense

Absolutely. Everything the government uses should be American made. Aren't they suppose to teach by example?
