Gales Ferry Man Running For 42nd District

Fran Lowell is Republican-endorsed candidate for 42nd State Representative seat.

 

Gales Ferry resident Fran Lowell was nominated Thursday by Republican delegates to represent the 42nd District in the General Assembly.

Republican delegates from Preston, Ledyard and Montville met at the Preston Town Hall to pick their candidate. Lowell expressed interest in the seat through an email and was the only person who expressed an interest in running this year.

Lowell's next line of duty is to notify the state of his intention to run. Lowell also has to raise $5,000 from 100 different people, with more than one half of that coming from residents in the 42nd District, according to the nominating committee's chairman.

So far, Lowell's only opponent comes from , a Preston selectman, who announced his interest in the seat Saturday. But, the Democratic endorsement will be decided at the party's May 22 convention.

The 42nd District seat opened up recently and unexpectedly when Rep. Tom Reynolds, D-Ledyard, Reynolds announcement came soon after long-time state .
