Gov. Malloy on The End of War in Iraq

Troops welcomed home after nearly a decade of conflict

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement today:

The flags were lowered this morning in Iraq, signifying the end of nearly a decade of conflict.  Yesterday, President Obama said the words that many of us – and many of the families of the men and women who have made unimaginable sacrifices on our behalf – have been waiting a long time to hear: ‘Welcome home.’

Especially after my trip to Afghanistan, I am acutely aware of the courage and commitment shown by our armed forces in Iraq as well as the other theaters in which they serve. To all of our troops, our veterans and their families, we can’t thank you enough for your service and sacrifice. We hope for your safe and speedy return home.
