Town Meeting on Field Improvements Tonight

Ledyard Parks and Rec Commission hopes to build and repair fields around town, the pavilion and gazebo.

The Ledyard Parks and Recreation Commission will go before the Town Council tonight during a special town meeting to request an appropriation of funds from their capital non-recurring account.

The Commission is requesting $38,905 from the account where registration fees are collected to make improvements to town parks and fields as well as the gazebo at Colonel Ledyard Park. Don Grise, director of Parks and Recreation, said no tax dollars will be used to make these improvements.

The money, according to Grise, will be used to shingle and paint the gazebo located at Colonel Ledyard Park, replace support poles located in the pavilion and to aerate, plant grass, fill and level four fields. The funds will also allow the addition of a baseball field at Pfizer Field.

The meeting takes place at 6:45 p.m. tonight in Council Chambers, which is in the Town Hall Annex.
