The History of New London Harbor and the Custom House Museum

The following is a press release provided by Ledyard Public Libraries:

The Friends of Ledyard Libraries will present a program highlighting the history of New London Harbor and the Custom House Museum at Bill Library in Ledyard at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011. Director of the Maritime Museum, Susan Tamulevich will speak on aspects of the multi-faceted maritime history of Thames River Harbor and the planned exhibition that will soon be open to the public.

The New London Maritime Society was formed in 1983 to preserve the city’s historic custom house by turning it into a museum of New London’s maritime history. In addition to permanent and short-term exhibits, the society sponsors a variety of programs designed to inform about the maritime significance of New London, neighboring coastal towns, and Long Island Sound.
