Malloy to Speak at FFA Convention Today

Ledyard High School to Host 82nd Gathering of State FFA Members

More than 600 Connecticut FFA members and honored guests – including Gov. Dannel P. Malloy – will gather at Ledyard High School today for the 82nd Connecticut Future Farmers of America Convention.

The day-long program will include member recognition and a range of workshops. A highlight will be remarks by Malloy, who is expected to arrive around 1 p.m., accompanied by state Rep. Tom Reynolds, Mayor Fred B. Allyn Jr. and other officials.

National FFA Officer Shannon Norris will attend and will lead a workshop. The convention recognizes students among the state's 2,600 FFA members who are enrolled in Regional Agricultural Science Education Centers throughout Connecticut and have excelled in the FFA.

In all, 24 Connecticut high schools have agriculture or agri-science programs. Ledyard High, the host of this year’s convention, has the only agri-science program in the region.
