Sixth-Graders Give The Gift Of Friendship...And Presents To Senior Citizens

Juliet W. Long School Students Share The Joy Of the Holiday

A number of the neediest of Ledyard’s seniors -- many of whom will spend the holidays alone -- visited Juliet W. Long School to pick up holiday baskets made for them by students in Nancy Hartz’s 6th-grade class.

According to Dr. Pam Austen, assistant principal, the students “wanted to do something to give back to the community.” So they decided to collect and wrap presents for seniors who may not receive a lot of gifts otherwise, Austen said.

“The students were really excited to meet the seniors and share the presents with them,” she said.

“Five seniors came, including Mr. Cristador,” a retired Ledyard schools custodian, Austen said.

“The students helped walk the seniors back to their van and delivered the rest of the gifts to transport back to the home for the seniors who didn't make the trip.”
