Week in Review: A Week of Arts and Entertainment

The week's top stories on the Ledyard Patch.

Early this week we posted a list of roads that will be worked on this summer and next. Steve Masalin’s master plan will eventually bring the average quality of Ledyard roads up to 80 (out of 100). If all goes as planned Masalin and the Department of Public Works will do anything from crack sealing to mill/overlay nearly 50 roads in Ledyard. Check here to see if your road is on the list.

Speaking of construction projects, the Ledyard Middle School just got some new doors installed. They got seven sets of doors meant to increase the security in the school. The doors were installed in the instructional wing of the the school and will provide a locked barrier between the hallway and the classroom clusters, which is more secure than what they had before, which was nothing. The doors are colorful and students can expect to have friendly door decorating contests in the future, according to principal Greg Keith.

We met Ledyard’s two Scholar Artists this year. Ledyard High School seniors Elizabeth Hooper and Steven Servedio; were recently recognized for all their hard work, talent and scholarship at the state-wide awards banquet for Scholar Artists. Hooper is a visual artist who spends all her spare time drawing and Servedio is in all of Ledyard's choruses. You would have seen a lot of Servedio at the choral concert held to benefit the Matt Buriak and Lauren Candler Memorial Scholarships

This week was a pretty exciting week in Ledyard. Among other things, there was a benefit choral concert for the Matt Buriak and Lauren Candler Memorial Scholarship Funds, the third annual Sweet Laughs Comedy Show and Dessert Tasting and the Auction Extravaganza starring the great Michael Daggett (more on him to come)!

And, the Bill Library had its annual Artist and Writers Showcase on Saturday, the exhibit will be up through the rest of the month.

Also, the Ledyard Police Union began their annual appeal so expect a phone call with the next two months or so.
