Goin' to the Dogs. And Cats.

Groton Junior Girl Scout Troop 63194 has been collecting supplies for Groton and Ledyard animal shelters

The girls from Junior Girl Scout Troop 63194 care a lot about earning their Bronze Award, the highest community service award the girls can achieve. But they seem to care just as much, if not more, about the dogs, cats and other critters that will benefit from their several weeks long drive to collect supplies for the Groton and Ledyard animal shelters.

“We’re happy we’re getting a lot of stuff for the animals,” said 10-year-old Olivia Fountaine, a member of the troop. Her mom Sue is the troop leader.

Six members of the troop stationed themselves at the Copp Family Dog Park Saturday to wrap up the pet supply drive; other girls had done it the week before. And the girls had also collected donations at their school, Sacred Heart.

The troop will be presenting all the donations to the two shelters in the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted.
