Montville's Memorial Day Parade Is Sunday!

Here's everything you need to know about the parade, and some ideas about where to station yourself to watch!

 

Montville's Memorial Day Parade is happening on Sunday - and it looks like the weather is going to be beautiful!

The events start with a wreath-laying at noon at the monuments in front of Town Hall. The parade steps off just after the ceremony, around 1 p.m., near the corner of Route 32 and Raymond Hill Road.

Lots of folks will be at the corner of routes 163 and 32, by - but there are tons of great spots where you can watch the parade! Tailgate in the parking lot at or . Park yourselves at and watch the Mystic Highland Pipe Band assemble. Have a picnic on the lawn of , or enjoy lunch at a table indoors or out at McDonald's!

The Memorial Service

The service starts at noon on Sunday with the massing of colors at the monuments in front of Montville Town Hall.

Parade Marshal Master Chief Kerry A. Meng will raise the flag and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Montville High School Chamber Chorus will sing the "Star-Spangled Banner," preceding remarks by dignitaries including Mayor Ronald McDaniel and Mohegan Chief Lynn Malerba.

James Glover will play "Amazing Grace" on his bagpipes, and American Legion Post 112 Commander Ronald Nicholson, VFW Memorial Post 10060 Commander Jesse Latorre, Gold Star Mother Tan Patchem and Gold Star Mother Gladys Rivera will lay wreaths.

The chorus will sing "Lead Me Home," and after an introduction, Meng will speak to the audience, as will NLON Submarine Base Commander Capt. Marc Denno.

The chorus will sing "The Navy Hymn," followed by a rifle volley salute to the war dead, and Taps. Meng will give the parade command and at 1 p.m., the parade will start.

At the end, a memorial service will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, followed by refreshments at the American Legion Post home on Pink Row.

  • Leatherneck Riders
  • Montville High School and Tyl Middle School marching bands
  • New London Motorcycle Club
  • Montville DARE students
  • Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts from Montville
  • Nutmeg Volunteer Junior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps

The detour

Route 32 will be closed from noon to about 2:30 p.m., from Sarah Drive to Route 163.

The detour will be Sarah Drive to Raymond Hill Road to Lynch Hill Road to Route 163 and back to Route 32. The route will be manned with traffic controllers.

Depot Road will be closed during the parade.
