VIDEO: CROP Walkers Remember the Hungry

About 120 walkers from six local churches do their part to combat hunger

On a crisp autumn afternoon about 120 walkers from six local churches set out from United Methodist Church in Gales Ferry on a 6-mile hike Sunday to raise money that will help feed the hungry. Sponsored by Church World Service, the walk has been an annual tradition in Gales Ferry for many years. One quarter of the money raised stays in the area. CROP Treasurer Ginny Beall said this year the local share will benefit the Gema Moran Food Center in New London. The six churches that participated this year were Ledyard Congregational Church, St. David's Episcopal Church, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, United Methodist Church and North Stonington Congregational Church. There is a shorter 1.5-mile walk that some walkers may choose. Nick Schultz, a freshman at Ledyard High School was the first walker to return from the longer, 6-mile walk.
