St. David's Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry began holding worship services in 1962, although the Episcopal tradition in Ledyard dates to a much earlier time. In fact, Samuel Seabury, the first American Episcopal bishop, was born in Ledyard. St. David's present sanctuary was built in 1966. The Rev. Mary Canavan is serving as the church’s fifth Rector. The church describes itself as an inclusive congregation in the mainstream Episcopal tradition. "Saint David's Christ-centered faith is reflected in inspirational liturgy, sacramental events, prayer and joyful music."
