Founded in 2005, the academy enrolls about a dozen students. Mary A. Brundage is the principal of the academy. The school's core values include "The Life of the Mind, Moral Choices, and Helping Our Neighbor." These values are integrated throughout the curriculum. The academy asserts that study of "violin and Latin are as much a part of the curriculum as reading and math."
Backus Health Center

The Backus Health Center in Ledyard has recently moved out of Gales Ferry and onto the Colonel Ledyard Highway in GalesMore Ferry. The health center is a branch of the larger Backus Hospital. The facility, run by Dr. Rocco Russo,  handles walk-ins and appointments, including checkups. It also coordinates its services with the University of Connecticut School of Health, allowing students to watch and help doctors at work.
