Located in the center of town, Ledyard Center School is the largest of the town's elementary schoolsMore and enrolls about 400 students in kindergarten through the sixth grade. This school, which opened its doors in 1950, it is also the oldest school building in town. The school's principal is Mary Fort Boyle. The Ledyard Center School faculty is committed to providing a program that "maximizes student achievement in a safe and respectful environment."
Juliet W. Long School

Juliet W. Long School enrolls approximately 350 students in grades 3-6, including most of the students from K-2 GalesMore Ferry School. Mary Porter Price is the principal. The school's curriculum includes language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, computers, art, music, band and physical education. Teaching techniques endeavor to build the classroom into a community, fostering responsibility, self-discipline, and a sense of caring for oneself and others.

The school's principal is Mary Porter-Price. Early literacy, numeracy and science are top priorities at Gales Ferry School.     
Ledyard Center Nursery School

The Ledyard Center Nursery School is located in the rear of the Ledyard Congregational Church. Beth Ayer is the school'sMore director. The school has programs for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds and children who are 4 and 5. Although based in the church, the school has no religious affiliation. "Our philosophy is that a child's work is play," Ayer said. The classes go on regular field trips to places such as the library and fire station. Approximately 55 children attend the school.
Ledyard High School

Ledyard High School, founded in 1963, enrolls approximately 1,000 students in grades 9 - 12 each year. A perennialMore football powerhouse, the high school also has a nationally recognized music program and honors society. A vocational agricultural facility was recently added in support of its 30-year agriscience and technology program, the only one of its kind in the region.

Academy of Saint Therese

Based in the Gales Ferry Community Center building, the Academy of St. Therese is a very small, private K-8 schoolMore committed to teaching and living the Catholic faith while achieving high moral and academic standards. Founded in 2005, the academy enrolls about a dozen students. Mary A. Brundage is the principal of the academy. The school's core values include "The Life of the Mind, Moral Choices, and Helping Our Neighbor." These values are integrated throughout the curriculum. The academy asserts that study of "violin and Latin are as much a part of the curriculum as reading and math."

Ivy Cottage Children's Center offers programs for toddlers and pre-schoolers and after-school programs for school-agedMore children. Programs include reading, mathematics and arts and crafts. The center serves the towns of Ledyard, Groton and Mystic. Children eligible to participate in any of the programs must have up-to-date imunization records and physicals. Applications are currently being accepted.

Child's Play is a child care center that offers day care, preschool and after-school care for children ages six weeks toMore 11. With an emphasis on early readiness, this center works with local schools to provide an adequate curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten. The staff are college educated and required to attend professional development courses annually.
