Ledyard Center School

Located in the center of town, Ledyard Center School is the largest of the town's elementary schoolsMore and enrolls about 400 students in kindergarten through the sixth grade. This school, which opened its doors in 1950, it is also the oldest school building in town. The school's principal is Mary Fort Boyle. The Ledyard Center School faculty is committed to providing a program that "maximizes student achievement in a safe and respectful environment."

The Ledyard Board of Education shares a building on Blonders Blvd. with the Department of Parks & Recreation. TheMore Education Department oversees six public schools, including Ledyard High School, Ledyard Middle School, Ledyard Center School, Gallup Hill School, Juliet W. Long School and Gales Ferry School. The schools' superintendent is Dr. Michael Graner.  

The mission of Ledyard Public Schools is "to ensure a culture of excellence that maximizes student achievement, develops skills for life-long learning and prepares students to be productive and responsible citizens in a global society."

Ledyard Center Nursery School

The Ledyard Center Nursery School is located in the rear of the Ledyard Congregational Church. Beth Ayer is the school'sMore director. The school has programs for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds and children who are 4 and 5. Although based in the church, the school has no religious affiliation. "Our philosophy is that a child's work is play," Ayer said. The classes go on regular field trips to places such as the library and fire station. Approximately 55 children attend the school.
Ledyard Fair

The Ledyard Fair is a public event held every year, offering a wide variety of amusements and attractions to visitors inMore the Ledyard area. The Fair features a tractor pull, a horse show, lawn mower races, amusement rides, games, red neck olympics, horseshoe throwing and a number of food and merchandise vendors. There are also a number of competitions such as goat, sheep, cattle, rabbit, guinea pig and poultry showing, as well as livestock showmanship. Free parking is available at Ledyard Middle School and Ledyard High School, with free shuttle buses transporting visitors to the fairground.

Ledyard High School, founded in 1963, enrolls approximately 1,000 students in grades 9 - 12 each year. A perennialMore football powerhouse, the high school also has a nationally recognized music program and honors society. A vocational agricultural facility was recently added in support of its 30-year agriscience and technology program, the only one of its kind in the region.
Ivy Cottage Children's Center
346 Colonel Ledyard Hwy, Ledyard, CT 06339
Ivy Cottage Children's Center offers programs for toddlers and pre-schoolers and after-school programs for school-agedMore children. Programs include reading, mathematics and arts and crafts. The center serves the towns of Ledyard, Groton and Mystic. Children eligible to participate in any of the programs must have up-to-date imunization records and physicals. Applications are currently being accepted.
