Ledyard Celebrates 17th National Day Of Prayer

People in Ledyard gathered at Bill Library to pray and participate in the National Day of Prayer.

Ledyard has been celebrating the National Day of Prayer for 17 years and this was the first year Andra Ingalls coordinated the event.

Ingalls opened the ceremony saying that "whether you're a person of faith or not, it doesn't matter. The point is we live in a country where we can do this. That's powerful, that means something."

Ingalls said that religious diversity is what Congress intended when it designated the Day of Prayer, not that every faith and creed would be homogenized, but that all who sought to pray for this nation would be encouraged to do so in any way deemed appropriate.

All faith groups are welcome to organize prayer events.  This particular gathering is a Christian observance of the National Day of Prayer.
