Will Your Road be Improved This Summer?

Director of Public Works Steve Masalin said this season in road projects will be very busy this year and a little less busy next summer. Below is a list of roads on his "to do" list for the next two seasons, which begin mid-April. The estimated cost of the projects is around $3.2 million.

Masalin rates each road by a variety of factors and said that the Town's present road conditions average out to be a 78 (on a scale from 0-100, with 100 being the highest) and he hopes to bring that up to 80 when the projects are complete.

Masalin said roads deteriorate according to a standard curve, so deterioration is always happening, even if it is not evident. He takes a proactive approach to maintaining roads in order to get the most out of the money available. To this end, he'll be introducing a new process this year—microsurfacing.

These projects are dependent upon approval of funding through parties outside the Town of Ledyard.  These projects will proceed only when such funding is appropriated through the outside agencies (in this case MPTN through the BIA).
