Mike,
My foundation for the "$3,000,000 in site work" comes from Mike France, who stated…Read More in his comment on my letter to the editor that "The remaining costs are for site work, demolition of buildings and other costs related to the construction project." $6,750,000 minus $3,750,000 for the building = $3,000,000 for site work. No matter how the math is done, we will be voting for up to $546/square foot for a new police station if it is located adjacent to Town Hall. That is far too much. And why, as alleged, would relocation to the former Gales Ferry School cost any more than $1,000,000? And why would the Gales Ferry School location constitute only a "temporary" solution of less than 30 years? It will have room for future growth if needed, and the building is structurally sound. It is also located much closer to the population center of town.
It was my understanding that the Ledyard Center School (LCS) would close as a condition of…Read More renovating the Ledyard Middle School. The Superintendent of Schools and the Ledyard Board of Education has already gone on record of closing the LCS ~~ to ensure that project is financially feasible. Did the Permanent Municipal Building Committee give serious consideration for relocating the police force to the LCS? If so, please provide those details (dates of those discussions, meeting minutes, pros & cons, cost analysis, etc). If not, why not?
I would also like to point out such as with the new public safety building that was built just over…Read More the Thames river in Montville that when that vote went to the residents of Montville was also at $6.75 million. A search of google has that the building project ultimately was erected for $5.19 million as listed in a new London day article on 6/12/11. As a resident in Ledyard I have to put faith in the town that if this referendum vote does get passed there will be multiple bids placed for the work and the actual number may be less than what was asked in the referendum vote as was the case when Montville went to referendum.
Hi-We're from the federal government and we're here to help you because your confused and can't…Read More think for yourself.TOM SANTOS WE THE TAX PAYER PAYS FOR IT!!!
Who is the fool that wants to blow $9 million dollars renumbering exit signs that have stood since…Read More the mid 60s? AS I understand it, the new exit numbers will correspond to the mile markers. So if the mile maker is 9.2, the exit number near that marker will be exit 9. However, the next exit is at marker 12.5, and the exit will be exit 13. Does that make sense? Who is going to pay for all the redesigning of the maps, the business owners who have spent thousands of dollars preparing literature showing which exit to take to get to their stores? As usual, the government wants to fix something that's not broken, and make it worse. The real problems don't get fixed. Get ready, next it'll be saying "we spent so much money renumbering all the highway exits, now we have to raise your taxes to pay the bill".
That's a good question. I assume it will show up as exit 9 once the new markers are installed but…Read More that's up to the GPS manufacturer to be aware of the change and reflect it on their software. However, it will only show up as exit 9 for for folks who update their GPS systems by plugging it into their computer and running update software. Many forget to update their systems regularly. The signs will be even more confusing as it will say "Exit 9: Old Exit 79A". I have seen those signs when PA highways did the changeover and it severely confuses those unfamiliar with the area the most. "Welcome to CT: Now It's time to Get Confused As We Call An Exit 2 Different Numbers For No Good Reason!"
