Lacey Anderson is One Busy Seventh-Grader

From Civil Air Patrol Cadets to Cheerleading to Playing the Saxophone

Lacey Anderson is 12 years old and a seventh-grader at Ledyard Middle School. She was recommended for this week’s Whiz Kid by guidance counselor Patty Pollen, who noted that Lacey is one of those students who is interested in many things.

For example, she is a member of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. She is learning about rescue missions as part of the Emergency Services.  She has flown on an orientation flight and does physical training as well as character development and leadership.

This takes a lot of her time. She drills from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and also attends Tuesday night meetings.

Lacey is a member of the Ledyard Middle School Cheerleading squad. She has been cheering for more than three years with the Parks & Rec program before she made the LMS squad last summer.

Lacey also is a Girl Scout, and she plays the saxophone in the school band. She had played softball in the spring, but maybe not this year, according to her mom, Wendy Anderson.

“Lacey always been pretty active, but this spring we decided to cut back a little,” Mrs. Anderson said. “She was going to start softball, but we need to slow down.”

Lacey partners with the Special Olympics soccer team, which she said is one of her favorite activities, and another commitment that will take her time this spring.

Of course, there’s always school work. Lacey said science is her favorite class and Mr. Davino is her favorite teacher.

She is happy to have spring return. “I really like spring,” she said. “I like to go outside and take walks. In fact, I just got back from a walk.”
