The Writers Block Ink, founded in 2003, is a 501c3 non-profit organization that empowers youth to advance key skills through all aspects of theatre. We arm young voices with the power of pen and prose, reinforcing teamwork, accountability, and responsibility to ignite social change on the page and stage. We establish an environment that invites and nurtures creativity engaging participants from all walks of life to use all aspects of visual and performing arts as tools to address personal and social challenges. At the Block, we invite and encourage youth to open up, speak up, create, and perform. We find, feed, and launch young leaders.

Members of the Writer’s Block produce powerful lyrics that provide insight and perspective into the challenges and choices they encounter each day. Final Writers Block productions are written, run, advertised and performed by students. Writer’s Block workshops are available to schools and community organizations. Courses are structured to guide students to improve writing skills, build self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork. The students conceive of an idea, develop a plot, evaluate character conflict, cast themselves, write a final script, market, and ultimately perform their work for the community.
