Also today, the Geer Hill One-Room Schoolhouse on Route 117 and the Stagecoach Way Station on Church Hill Road will have an open house from 2-4 p.m.

The original Geer Hill School, built in 1735, burned down, but the existing building itself is almost 200 years old. Ledyard kids were still attending classes there until 1949, when the Ledyard Center School opened.

The open house will show off some extensive renovations made to the school over the past year. The event is free, but donations are happily received.

These buildings are priceless pieces of town history.
