Ledyard's Aiki Farm to Host GMO Labeling Debate

As consumer demand and grassroots efforts grow in support of HB 6519 and mandatory labeling for Genetically Modified foods, citizens from across New London County will attend a panel discussion this Thursday evening to learn the facts about these potentially harmful products and how they can get involved with the campaign to label Genetically Modified Food in Connecticut.

WHO: Speakers will include Former Congressman Rob Simmons; Professor Ron Rainey, spokesman for Arkansas non-GMO movement; Annaliese Paik, local-sustainable food advocate and founder of the Fairfield Green Food Guide; Former Senator Edith Prague; Ian Skoggard, Member of the UCC Green Team and non-GMO organizer; Bill Duesing, Executive Director of CT Northeast Organic Farmers Association; Wayne Hoener, Vice President of eMerge-Seed - non-GMO seed and Dan Masters, Owner and Operator of non-GMO Hiland Naturals LTD. The event is being co-sponsored by Food & Water Watch along with GMO Free CT and allies Cedar Meadows Farm, Hidden Brook Gardens, Studio Farm, Highland Thistle Farm, Hiland Naturals Ltd., and Marwin Farm.

WHAT: The Panel will speak to the labeling of hidden, genetically modified food here in Connecticut, the effects of genetically modified seed on small farmers, and citizen efforts to support HB 6519. It will be moderated by organic farmer Bob Burns of GMO Free CT New London County and Aiki Farms.  The event will take place at Aiki Farms and will also include Aikido demonstration following Seed Sprouting Seminar and Low Cost Fodder Production Demonstration.
