The Town Turns Out To March Or To Watch The Yearly Parade

The town's Memorial Day parade on Sunday paid tribute to those who have fought and died, and those who have served in other ways as well.

Major Joseph Keefe of the U.S. Army, parade Grand Marshal, stood in the town's memorial garden to address those gathered on the roadside. "We're not the only folks who perform a service for our country," Keefe said. "In the course of the parade today, you'll see not only the military, but all the people who serve our community."

Only moments later, the parade set out from the Ledyard Fairgrounds where it had assembled. It marched from there to Ledyard High School, and filled the road between with noise and flags and scattered candy. The fire companies and police were there, as well as boy scouts, girls scouts, sports teams, and the Ledyard Lions Club.

The Lions Club is responsible for organizing the parade. "We put this on every year," said member Howie Kaminski. "It gets a little better, a little bigger, every year. This year I think is the biggest."
