Harkness Park's Music Season Ends Early At The Garde Arts Center

Bring Our Music Back has decided to err on the side of caution and hold Thursday's concert with Duke Ellington indoors. This will also be the last concert of the season as Opera Under The Stars has been canceled.

If you were able to catch Leon Russell in concert at Waterford's Harkness Park last week, you were lucky. Not only did you see a great show, it turns out that was the last chance for a picnic in the park this season.

Rather than hold another concert in the rain, Bring Our Music Back looked at the predictions for scattered thunderstorms and a 50 percent chance of rain on Thursday and decided to hold this Thursday's performance by the Duke Ellington Orchestra inside at The Garde Arts Center in New London.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with performances from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be no picnicking but Coffee's Country Market will have dinner, desserts, and coffee for sale. VIP ticket holders will be seated in the loge and are invited to enjoy the lounge in the mezzanine area.

Though it was not Bring Our Music Back's original intention, this will be the final concert of the season. According to the organization's web site, the Opera Under The Stars concert originally scheduled for August 15 has been canceled "due to unforeseen circumstances."

Ticket holders for that event may exchange them for this week's performance by the Duke Ellington Orchestra or for any concert in the 2014 season. Bring Our Music Back will also offer refunds if ticket-holders prefer.
