Five Things to Know Today

CL&P Culpability, Campaign Deadline, Free Pizza, More Jazzercise

  1. Cloudy early today with partial sunshine expected late. Slight chance of a rain shower. High near 55F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight clear to partly cloudy. Low 39F.
  2. Readers who took our poll Monday were split on whether CL&P should be blamed for the weird weather we’ve been having, although a slim majority felt the power company should not be held responsible for resulting widespread and protracted outages. Coincidentally, as of Monday afternoon, power had been restored to all but one Ledyard customer.
  3. Patch will accept campaign letters, endorsements and other election-related content through Friday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. It will continue to publish election content through Sunday evening, after which it will take a breather on the election stuff until Tuesday morning, Nov. 8, when the polls open. And then we will do the usual coverage.
  4. Fireside Brick Oven Creations in Gales Ferry is celebrating its first year in business with a Toys for Tots kick-off celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 5-7 p.m. Anyone bringing in a new, unwrapped toy during this time will get a free slice of pizza and anniversary cake. Also, the first 25 people to donate will receive a Fireside Brick Oven Creations/Toys for Tots Mystery Envelope. Each envelope will contain a certificate for 5, 10, 15, or 25 percent off their total bill. The certificate is valid during the month of December, but it must be presented unopened in order to be redeemed. (That's the mystery part.) Join the celebration – great pizza and a great cause.
  5. Just when we thought the Jazzercise flap had run its course, a new development that will likely keep the controversy alive and kicking for the foreseeable future. Watch for our coverage.
