Five Things to Know Today

Power Outage, Farmer Pete, Cooling the 911 Room, Crowning a New Idol

  1. The sun came out for a brief time Tuesday. And now we have more sun in the forecast today before clouding up tonight. Be thankful for small blessings.
  2. About 1,900 Gales Ferry residents lost power Tuesday night. For most, power was restored before midnight, although we plan to check in with Farmer Pete Bargmann this morning to see how he and his 800 gallons of ice cream fared.
  3. Assuming everything's OK at with the ice cream, Farmer Pete will conduct a free Vegetable Gardening 101 class Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at his Alice Acres Farm. He’ll show how to set up a garden, talk about fertilizers, tell how to transplant and answer any questions.  Not a moment too soon.
  4. The Town Council will meet tonight at 7:30. On the agenda: a motion to approve up to $7,000 from the capital non-recurring fund to install air conditioning units to alleviate the overheating of the 911 equipment room at the Ledyard Police Department building. Who knew?
  5. Probably sometime during that council meeting tonight either Lauren Alaina or Scotty McCreery will become the next American Idol. Woo-Hoo!!
