Five Things to Know Today

Town Meeting Tonight on Three Bond Issues, Plus Some Other Stuff

  1. Partly cloudy today, high 78F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight cloudy in the evening with scattered thunderstorms developing after midnight. Low 66F.
  2. There will be a Town Meeting tonight at 6:30 in the Town Hall Annex to decide three bond issues. They are: $325,000 for new bleachers at the high school; $350,000 for financial software and $200,000 to convert Gales Ferry schools from oil heat to natural gas.
  3. In case you missed it yesterday, Edith Prague weighed in on a special legislative session scheduled by Gov. Dannel Mallow for both houses to deal with the state’s fiscal crisis after state workers rejected concessions he requested.  One thing about Prague – you’re never left to wonder what she really thinks.
  4. If you’ve never been to the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, this could be the perfect week to take a drive down to the shore in Waterford and check it out. Free performances by Theatermakers on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. through July 26.
  5. And if you weren’t able to make it to Cruise Night at Alice Acres this weekend or Ocean Beach Park last night, we have pictures.
