Five Things to Know Today

Town Hall Closed, School Starts Sept. 6, Tree vs. House, What's Your Good Neighbor Story?

  1. Ledyard Town offices are closed today. Ledyard Schools will not reopen until Tuesday, Sept. 6.
  2. Whalehead Road resident Carrie Jacobson has electricity! She called this morning to report that the power came back on at around at 7:40 a.m. Progress!
  3. Both Ledyard High School and the Ledyard Senior Center were without power when we last checked.  BUT… the Groton Patch is reporting that residents may take a shower and get a meal at the Groton Senior Center between 5 and 9 p.m. The center is next to the Groton Public Library near the south end of Route 117.
  4. A big oak tree fell on Mike Whitten’s house on Long Cove Road. No one was hurt. In fact (knock on wood) there have been no reports of storm-related injuries so far.  There was a minor single-lane motor vehicle crash Monday morning. There are still a number of single-lane obstructions in town, including Pumpkin Hill Road, the north end of Route 117 and others. PLEASE us the utmost caution when approaching these obstructions.
  5. Haley Shipley added a nice story of how the neighbors on Meadow Drive had been helping one another. And three generations of Cravens were at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Monday afternoon to cut up a big tree that had fallen on the property. Have you received help from your friends or neighbors? Have you been able to lend a hand? Click here and tell us your story in Comments.
